Mikumi National Park Overview

Mikumi National Park is one of the well known national parks in Tanzania. It is located in the southeastern part of the country. The park is easy to reach by flight from Zanzibar, which makes it a good option for a day trip. The park is known for open plains, wildlife, and beautiful scenery.

Wildlife and Birdwatching in Mikumi

During your safari in Mikumi, you may see many animals such as lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, impala, kudu, baboons, and elands, which are the largest antelopes in the world. The park is also very good for bird watching. There are more than 400 bird species, including lilac breasted rollers, bateleur eagles, and yellow throated longclaws.

ITINERARY
Day Trip Fly in Safari to Mikumi National Park from Zanzibar

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Zanzibar by a team member for a short safari briefing. After the briefing, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Mikumi National Park. The flight departs at 07:00 AM and arrives at Mikumi Airstrip at 08:00 AM.

Upon arrival, your safari guide will welcome you and start the game drive. You will explore the famous Mkata Plains, an area known for a high number of animals. During the safari, you will also visit the Hippo Pool, where you can see hippos and other animals near the water. Later, you will enjoy a picnic lunch in the park and continue with the afternoon game drive. In the afternoon, you will return to the airstrip for your flight back to Zanzibar, departing around 15:45.

Mikumi National Park and Wildlife Experience

Mikumi National Park is located near the northern border of Selous Game Reserve, one of the largest protected wildlife areas in Africa. This area is important for wildlife conservation in Tanzania.

The park is known for its large open plains, especially the Mkata Floodplain, which is often compared to the plains of Serengeti National Park because of the large number of animals. You can see buffalo, zebras, giraffes, elephants, and many other animals. Predators such as lions and leopards can also be seen. The park is also good for bird watching, with more than 400 bird species, including lilac breasted rollers and bateleur eagles.
